Museum De Lakenhal reopens Mid-June 2019
Museum De Lakenhal will open its doors to the public again Mid-June 2019. The museum will be given back to the public with a festive opening weekend. Admission will be free. As from the reopening, the collection will be displayed in the old ‘Laecken-Halle’ (Cloth Hall), with familiar highlights such as ‘Last Judgment’ (ca. 1526/27) by Lucas van Leyden, ‘A Peddler Selling Spectacles’ (ca. 1624) by Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn, and ‘Contra-Composition VII’ (1924) by Theo van Doesburg. Starting from the reopening, a special presentation about the restoration and expansion will be set up in the newly built exhibition halls, with photographic works by Karin Borghouts and Marjan Teeuwen.
Renovated museum
As from the reopening, Museum De Lakenhal will be an inclusive museum: a place where a broad cross-spectrum of the public will feel welcome, regardless of age, cultural or social background, religious convictions or handicaps, in whatsoever form. The inclusive museum combines unique people with objects from the collection and stories that can be told about them. Museum De Lakenhal calls this the ‘personalisation of the museum visit’. Identity, hospitality and interactivity are the basic principles. Museum De Lakenhal wishes to inspire, challenge, amaze and enthuse its visitors, thereby making an active contribution to their personal development. Individual visitors and groups will be inspired to explore old and new perspectives of the collection by means of perceptive learning based on sensual experiences - each in his or her own way.
