Zedz
Leiden (the Netherlands), 1971
Zedz originates from the Leiden world of graffiti. Sprouting from typography and graffiti he increasingly works in an abstract style when it comes to his murals, paintings, computer graphics, bas-relief and sculptures. The influence of De Stijl is of great importance to him.
Zedz works with the basic principles of De Stijl and navigates along the margins. To this aim, he uses the classical language of shape as a starting point to bring about new insight and new works of art. This becomes visible in the geometry and the strong demarcation of colour fields, but also in his style –the experimental character- of translating letters to an abstract language of shapes. To Zedz, art is part of daily life and has become a key component in public space. Zedz lives and works in Milan.
For De Lakenhal Open Air Museum, Zedz has created a part of a previously created screen printing; he enlarges this to the human size.
